Wild Game Cooking

Consumption is a key outcome of hunting and a celebration of the wild game we chase. To this end, the introduction of wild game to those who may not have the ability, want or time to hunt is critical. The experience of sharing wild game is as important as mentorship or access when recruiting new members into the fold.

With your membership, you will be subscribed to the Gunners Gazette, a monthly member newsletter. In each edition a wild game recipe, usually featured at a meeting will be included.

Wild Game Harvest

Geelong Field & Game celebrates the tastes of the game we hunt and the food we forage each and every month at our meetings. In our monthly newsletter, the Gunner’s Gazette, we share wild game recipes and replicate these at our monthly member meetings.

In sharing these recipes, we are inspiring new hunters and reinvigorating the passions that many hold. Empowering members and the general public to think deeply about the sources of their food and work to make the taste of each and every meal more rewarding.

Cooking wild harvested game is a celebration of many things. First and foremost, it is a celebration of the animal. Even after life, the animal has an impact, through consumption of wild game, the stories and experiences impact all senses.

Why we hunt for the table

Continuing the tradition of hunt and harvest, our members engage in a pastime that results in a profound respect and a deep understanding of the species hunted. Hunters intimately understand the habitat, life cycle, diets, environmental impact and behavior of each and every animal hunted. The consumption is the final act, hours of hard work and years of learning builds to the moment of celebration, sharing, tradition and consumption. An act undertaken by humans and animal for millennia and millennia to come.

So, share your harvest, invite new people into the fold and enjoy the time celebrated over a meal that is undoubtedly a labour of love.

Versatility and Imagination

Through hunting, members harvest numerous species of wild game, and as a result of this harvest members rise to the challenge of holistic consumption of their game.

Geelong Field & Game, through its monthly member meetings will have on offer a variety of wild game, prepared by the membership to inspire creative cooking methods, recipe design and the use of wild game as a conversation starter or an avenue to push the boundaries and perceptions of the general public.
