As a benefit of membership with Geelong Field & Game, members are provided with ample hunting opportunity through a number of branch initiatives. Assistance, mentorship and general advice are all perks afforded to new members of the branch.
Fox Drives
Geelong members, through their membership are able to attend branch fox drives throughout the year. These drives, taking place throughout Western Victoria, aim to reduce pest numbers on the landscape and give members the opportunity to participate in group hunting through both shooting and driving.
Participants in the driving group will walk the landscape pushing any foxes or rabbits out of their dens and burrows and into range of the shooters who, with shotguns will shoot these animals reducing their environmental damage and reducing population numbers.
Duck Hunting
For those interested in getting started in duck hunting, Geelong Field & Game members will provide general assistance with licensing and can assist through training for the Waterfowl Identification Test (WIT) to give new hunters the best opportunity when first starting out. Gear recommendations, duck calling, decoy spreads, tips and tricks and much more are provided to new members to get them on their way.
Quail Hunting
Quail hunting in Victoria, particularly around the Geelong area is a cherished pastime for many. Stubble quail, being the only quail species able to be hunted, are widespread and abundant most notably in Victoria which sits at the heart of its distribution. A proficient shooter with the assistance of a well-trained dog can work as one to hunt this small game bird in and around grasslands and crop.
